The sports giant overnight decried the violence that has marred the release of the $US180 black and white "Air Jordan XI Retro Concords" that are identical to those first introduced in 1996. "We are extremely concerned to hear of the reported crowd incidents around the launch of the Air Jordan XI at some select retail locations," Brian Facchini, spokesman for Nike's Jordan brand said, according to USA Today. "Consumer safety and security is of paramount importance. We encourage anyone wishing to purchase our product to do so in a respectful and safe manner." Thousands of shoppers lined up outside malls and stores hours before they opened, and police were called to stores in New Jersey, Washington, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia, among others.
